Small Business Review: My Grandparents' Garage
Today, I am sharing some bookish content in the form of a review for a beautiful small business. Inspired and taught by his grandparents, the owner of My Grandparents’ Garage, Matt LaCava, is a hard-working, talented carpenter and artist.
Although what he made for me was not out of wood, I am still floored by the beauty and detail of his work. Matt reached out to me, seeing my blog page, and offered to make me a custom bookmark, a product new to his sale options.
Being the huge book nerd that I am, I couldn’t refuse. He provided several options of what he could do, but truthfully, I love it when a custom product has the artists’ influence embedded within it. I gave him very little to work with so that he could make the bookmark his own, and I was not disappointed.
The etch of the book with the flowers is a concept I’ve been toying with as a tattoo idea, which is the only detail I provided. Otherwise, Matt made it his own by adding additional fluttering pages and a beautiful quote. I absolutely love it and will use it with every physical book I read.
Seeing how much detail he could put into a little piece of leather only validated what capabilities he has when it comes to woodworking. And if this doesn’t prove it to you, you should check out his Instagram page @mygrandparentsgarage, where he showcases his works in progress and completed projects.
I can’t wait to order pieces from him, knowing they will be beautiful and uniquely made. For anyone looking for a custom gift or sign, among many other unique products, you should contact Matt.
Continuously growing in what he creates, some of his options include custom:
Cornhole Sets
Clocks
Signs
Furniture
Accessories (cutting boards, shelves, dessert table decor, etc.)
Step Stools
Pens
Baby Toys
Ornaments
Wedding Bands
Memorial Boxes
