ARC Review: The Bodyguard Proposal by Sookh Kaur

***Scroll to the bottom for my rating***

First, I would like to thank Sookh Kaur for reaching out and asking if I would be interested in reading an ARC of The Bodyguard Proposal. I feel shy about reaching out to authors despite wanting to support and be their friend, so this was a welcome interaction. Having Sookh reach out to me took a lot of the anxiety away. It truly allowed me to experience a romance with characters I scarcely see represented.

The Bodyguard Proposal follows Komal Chahal, the daughter of a famous Pollywood actress looking to experience freedom before her life is devoted to acting alongside her mother. Taking an impromptu trip to London to do wild and crazy things, she is shocked when her mother’s bodyguard, Huan Li, shows up on assignment to keep her safe.

With laughable dialogue, pent-up interest, and sexy-as-sin interactions, this book really is best described as a steamy romantic comedy. (See what I did there? That’s the subtitle).

I’ll be honest: I wasn’t sold initially, but after about 20-25% of the way through, I was hooked. Since fame isn’t common in most people’s lives, it can be hard to say what could be perceived as abnormal. To me, some of what brings Komal and Huan together in London seems a bit unrealistic. But once tensions released and walls began descending, it really was enjoyable.

Kaur has written some excellent inner dialogue for her characters, as well as witty banter to keep the feel of the story light. I found myself laughing, smiling, and oooing throughout the story, along with sympathizing and pouting because of her solid lines and scenes. Despite not being familiar with some of the cultural or geographical references, it really captured me.

I loved Komal’s drive to find herself and break out of her comfort zone to do what makes her happy. I also loved watching Huan’s constant battle to keep his composure when it was clear from the start he didn’t want to. Their attraction to one another is palpable even before anything truly happens between them.

Huan’s overprotective and possessive demeanor and Komal’s sarcastic and “to hell with it” attitude mixed perfectly for this spicy pairing. Just like them, I never wanted their time in London to end.

My overall opinion of this story is positive. Still, it took me a bit to get into it, so I am rating The Bodyguard Proposal 3.5 out of 5 stars and a 4 for spice. If you want to diversify your reads and support an indie author (because you should), I recommend reading this story.

As always, thanks for reading! 💜
